Florence 1 Schools holds information sessions for non-traditional teacher candidates

Florence 1 Schools will hold four informational sessions for anyone interested in becoming a teacher using alternative certification pathways.

Candidates for alternative certification are those who have a bachelor's degree or higher, and are interested in teaching in their field of study but do not currently have teaching credentials.

During the informational sessions, candidates will learn about the coursework and tests they will complete in order to earn their alternative certification, as well as the on-site support that will be available for test takers. Interested candidates are asked to bring a copy of their transcripts, official or unofficial transcripts are fine, and a resume to the session so that district representatives can help evaluate the alternative certification options with them.

“Alternative certification is a really great option for someone who has a four-year degree and a passion for their area of study,” said Ashley Watson, F1S Director of Marketing and Talent. “There are many recent graduates who have earned their degree never intending to become a teacher but they realize now that they want to share their love of learning with others. Alternative certification pathways allow those individuals to put their experience to work in the classroom. We are excited to have these options for people with a wide range of experience in their field who now want to become educators.”

Interested candidates are encouraged to register online at bit.ly/f1sreadytoteach prior to attending but registration is not required.
