To F1S Parents/Guardians:

On Thursday, March 11, 2021, the Florence One Board of Trustees approved the second phase of the middle school concept transition for the 2021-2022 school year. The plan would move both Sneed Middle School and Moore Middle School to a grade 6-8 configuration. The plan moves all current 5th-grade students by school to the respective middle school for sixth grade.

All current 5th-grade students at Briggs Elementary School, Royall Elementary School, and Savannah Grove Elementary School will attend Sneed Middle School in 2021-2022. All current 5th-grade students at Carver Elementary School, Delmae Elementary School, and Lucy T. Davis Elementary School will attend Moore Middle School in 2021-2022. In addition, current 5th-grade students at McLaurin Elementary School will attend Southside Middle School in 2021-2022.

Moving forward, the district will continue with its attendance zones for all elementary and high schools but middle school attendance will be determined by the 5th-grade elementary school a student attends. Furthermore, all students wanting to pursue the Middle Years IB Program at Williams Middle School or the Arts Magnet at Southside Middle School will continue to be able to pursue the application process regardless of the elementary school attended in 5th grade.

The third and final phase will transition Southside Middle School and Williams Middle School to grades 6-8 in 2022-2023 with the respective 5th-grade students attending the middle schools listed below.

We appreciate the patience and understanding of our parents/guardians during this transition phase. We are excited and eager to complete this process, as we know it will continue to strengthen F1S academic programs and opportunities for our middles school and the students and staff we serve in our district.
