Florence 1 Schools and MUSC Health Florence Medical Center partner to test students and staff for COVID-19

FLORENCE — MUSC Health Florence Medical Center and Florence 1 Schools are teaming up to make COVID-19 testing easily available for school district students and staff.

This important partnership enables students and staff to get tested for COVID-19 in a timely manner through the MUSC Health Back2Business program promoting a safe, educational environment.

“We want students to return to a safe environment in which to continue their education. The MUSC Health Back2Business program is a wonderful tool that uses specific guidance for COVID-19 testing protocol. With this program F1S students and staff will be able to focus on education and know they are better protected against the virus,” said Vance Reynolds, CEO, MUSC Health Florence Division. “MUSC Health Florence Medical Center and F1S’s partnership is another step toward fulfilling the MUSC mission to make health care more accessible to all. We’re all in this together, and together we can be successful in the fight against coronavirus.”

The Back2Business program ensures proper COVID-19 testing protocol is followed to maximize testing capabilities. Testing is available throughout the school year.

“Our healthcare partners have been exceptional during this time, graciously giving their time to help us navigate what state and local guidelines look like in our schools,” said Florence 1 Schools Superintendent Dr. Richard O’Malley. “This partnership will allow us to send symptomatic students or staff to a convenient and confidential site where they can get tested and quickly get their results.”

“We are very fortunate to have the access to health care that we have in our community,” said Florence 1 Schools Lead Nurse Beth Holzbach. “The provision of this testing service and accessibility to testing are important as we open our schools in F1S.”
