John W. Moore Receives Lowe's Toolbox for Education Grant for the Environmental Center

Florence, SC – The Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded a $4,770.00 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education® grant to John W. Moore in Florence for creating an Environmental Center at Moore where students and staff can take their learning outside. John W. Moore is one of 545 schools across the United States to be awarded a Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant this fall for improvement projects.

The Environmental Center will include a greenhouse, weather station, garden with raised beds, and fencing. Students will be able to investigate the environmental factors that affect plant growth. Students will calculate the average amount of produce that grows on one plant based on the number of seeds that were planted and estimate the amount of time it will take for the plant to produce the fruit or vegetable. A team of volunteers is installing pavers, a greenhouse, and weather station on November 23, 2019. The project is scheduled to be completed in April of 2020.

“The Lowe’s Toolbox for Education program delivers on Lowe’s commitment to improve the educational environment for students across the country,” said Maureen Ausura, chairwoman of the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation. “We're honored to work with John W. Moore to support the needs of our local students, teachers and families.”
