The selection and announcement of the winners were made by the Goethe-Institut Chicago, the official cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany. Based on the motto BE THE ONE, the Goethe-Institut Chicago is searching for two “Olympic athletes“ to represent the USA in Dresden, Germany next summer. The participants will prove their knowledge of the German language and culture in a competition with students from 50 different nations.

On December 6-7, Watson will travel to Chicago to participate in the US Final Round held as an "Olympic pentathlon" - reading, listening, speaking, writing and presenting will be tested. In this all-expenses-paid trip, Watson will visit the Christkindlmarket, a German-style Christmas market, in Chicago and will also be able to view the beautiful Chicago skyline from the Willis Tower.

Watson is a student of Dr. Lucia Huang, German teacher at Wilson High School.  For more information on the IB Program at Wilson High School, contact Brian Howell bhowell@fsd1.org.
