The Fellows in Education visited Savannah Grove to learn more about the computer immersion program, which teaches students the basics of coding. The Fellows visited several classrooms to observe how students use Legos to learn about coding. One of the classrooms they visited was the STEAM lab, led by the STEAM coach, Mrs. Taylor. In the STEAM lab, 3rd-6th graders learn coding through a computer program called Scratch as well as with Legos. K-1st grade students work on coding with their homeroom teachers, also using the Scratch program and Legos. The purpose of the Fellows in Education is to expose Florence-area business leaders to the challenges and successes in local schools.
