Florence 1 uses transportation app to enhance student safety, parent communication

Florence 1 parents will now have their student's daily bus transportation information in the palm of their hands with the rollout of the Traversa Ride 360 app. The district will start the school year with eighty-eight school buses with Ride 360 tracking available; eventually, all of the district’s buses will be equipped with the technology.

Parents of bus riders will receive a bus pass with their student’s school ID number to use in the Ride 360 app. Once parents have registered and logged into the app they will be able to see the location of their student’s bus stop, the name of their bus driver, and the bus number. 

The app will use cellphone towers to track the bus, giving parents an estimated time of arrival based on the route. While times will be very accurate, they will not be exact. 

Kyle Jones, Florence 1 Schools Deputy Superintendent, said that with the new app, the district is providing increased safety and communication.

“Safety is always a top priority in Florence 1 Schools,” Jones said. “With the Ride 360 app, we are adding an extra layer of safety for our students and more peace of mind for their parents as they are transported to and from school each day.”

Parents should note that the Ride 360 access is a privilege and can be revoked at any time if the app is misused.

The Florence 1 Transportation Hotline will be available once again at the start of the school year. Parents are asked to call 843-954-5100 with all questions related to transportation. The Transportation Office will not be open to foot traffic.

The Transportation Hotline will be available Monday-Friday from 7am to 6 pm beginning July 31st, the first day of school for students.

“The Transportation Team is excited and ready for the start of another school year,” said Transportation Director Mitchell Washington. “We are always looking for new ways to improve our operations. We are excited to launch our new Ride 360 app. This will provide parents and guardians with another form of accountability.  We can't wait to see all of our students and look forward to another great year in Florence 1 Schools.”
