First Ever Unified Knight Edition Performance

Nearly 30 West Florence students gave a special preview performance of their rendition of “Lovely Day” by American soul and R&B singer Bill Withers to school staff and students, district staff and parents early Tuesday morning.

This was the first official performance for the Unified Knight Edition, the latest Unified group at West Florence, bringing students with and without disabilities together as a unified musical performance group. West Florence was designated as a National Banner Unified Champion School in 2023 after introducing a Unified Sports class, which serves to promote acceptance and inclusion in schools through sports.

The Unified Knight Edition will perform Lovely Day next week at the State Capital, part of the Unified Rally for Special Olympics.

Coach Warren Coker, who started the Unified Sports program at West Florence, said that the performance brought tears to his eyes.

“This is a dream come true and it warms my heart,” Coker said. “I can’t wait to see more things like this group and this performance come from our Unified program."
