Mrs. Barrett Jackson

Hello! I am a native of Florence and a graduate of West Florence High School. I began playing viola in the 6th grade at Savannah Grove Elementary School and was a member of the DOME program. I attended the University of Georgia and earned degrees in Music Education and Music Therapy. I began my teaching career at Harmony Leland Elementary School just ouside Atlanta. There I worked with the Leonard Bernstein Artful Learning program through the Grammy Foundation and was a trainer for the program. I was selected as a Teacher of the Year in 2002.

After returning to South Carolina, I began the orchestra program in Darlington County for Hartsville Middle School and also taught at Thornwell School for the Arts. I have taught general music at Lucy T. Davis and began teaching at South Florence in 2015. I currently teach Orchestra 1-4 and Beginning Orchestra.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy performing with the Cadenza String Quartet and Florence Symphony Orchestra. I love theatre and performing on stage or in the pit with the Florence Little Theatre. I was cast in  Steel Magnolias, Les Miserables, and as the fiddler in Fiddler on the Roof.

I look forward to getting to know all of my students. Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns. This is going to be a great year!
