Mrs. Barrett Jackson

     Mrs. Jackson is a native of Florence and a graduate of West Florence High School. She began playing viola in the 6th grade at Savannah Grove Elementary School and was a member of the DOME program. She earned degrees in Music Education and Music Therapy from the University of Georgia. She taught in Atlanta for five years where she wrote the curriculum and began a violin program in an arts based elementary school. There she worked with the Leonard Bernstein Artful Learning program through the Grammy Foundation and was a trainer for the program. She was also selected as a Teacher of the Year.

     After returning to South Carolina, she began the orchestra program in Darlington County for Hartsville Middle School and also taught at Thornwell School for the Arts where she began the guitar program. She has taught general music at Lucy T. Davis and currently teaches Orchestra and Piano at South Florence. She is the Fine Arts Department Chair.

     Mrs. Jackson is a founding member of the Cadenza String quartet, plays with the Florence Symphony Orchestra, and is a previous guest conductor for Florence All-City Orchestra. She enjoys acting with the Florence Little Theatre and was most recently seen in Steel Magnolias, Les Miserables, and as the fiddler in Fiddler on the Roof. She is married to Mark and they have two daughters.
