Mrs. Howard

Mrs. Howard is a transplant in SC as she was born and raised in a farming communty in central Illinois. Over the years, she has taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science as well as several PLTW stem courses.  Mrs. Howard taught in Darlington SC previously and has been with Florence School District One since 2013. In total she has 30 years of teaching experience and was selected as Sneed's 2020 Teacher of the year. She is a volunteer leader for  the 4-H Club here at Sneed, and was selected as the 2020 State Volunteer of the Year for the state of South Carolina.  In 2017, she became a SC State Certified Beekeeper and wrote a grant to establish an apiary on campus, which she still maintains and uses to teach children about the importance of pollinators to our food supply.  Last year she received a Champions of the Environment Grant to develop a Wildlife Oasis educational site on Sneed's Campus.

When she is not teaching or involved in school related activities, Mrs. Howard is a wife and a mother to a teenager attending West Florence High School.  She enjoys most outdoor activities such as fishing, camping and kayaking and has shares the love of nature with her students.  She has served as an instructor for Boy Scouts and works with youth programs through her church.  She enjoys gardening, raising chickens and rabbits and general homesteading activities. She believes that especially in today's world it is important to teach our youth how to become successful self-sustaining adults who are mindful of preserving our natural resources and planet.
