Degrees and Certifications:
Early Childhood Elementary Child Psycholgy
Ms. Amy Madison
My name is Amy Madison. This is mythird year here at Dewey L. Carter. However, I have been teaching for 10 years. I spent the first seven years of my teaching career working as a Kindergarten teacher. I spent my first two years teaching 4th Grade and now I am entering into a whole new unknown teaching 6th Grade ELA and Social Studies, but I am looking forward to it!
I am orginally from Western Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh, PA. I attended Westminster College, in New Wilmington, PA, for my Undergraduate Degree. I graduated from there in 2005 with a Bachelor's in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. In 2014, I obtained my Master's Degree in Child and Adolescent Psycholgy from The Chicago School of Professional Psychololgy.
After graduating college in 2005, I joined a community service organization called AmeriCorps*NCCC. I worked for this organization for two years. During that time, I worked with a group of 9 other people and we traveled all over the United States performing on various projects to help those communities. Most of my time and energy was devoted to helping those families in the areas of Lousiana, Texas and Mississippi recover from the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. I spent my first year gutting out and cleaning houses that were destroyed by floods or clearing land plots for houses that were literally swept away. The second year, I focused on rebuilding those areas and those houses and worked for organizations like Habitat for Humanity and led and coordinated groups of volunteers.
Shortly after I finished with AmeriCorps, I took a job working at Main Street Elementary in Lake City, SC. I worked there for one year. Then, I worked as a Science Outreach Coordinator for the Children's Museum in Myrtle Beach, SC. Finally ending up at Brockington Elementary in Timmonsville, SC where I worked for five years before coming here to Dewey L. Carter.
I love teaching and I am excited to help your children feel safe, to do their best and to find their place.
