Mrs. Lillian Smith

Greetings! It is my honor to serve as your child's Reading Recovery teacher! Reading Recovery is for children in first grade who are having the greatest difficulty learning to read and write. My goal is to accelerate each student's progress to average levels of reading through daily individual 30-minute literacy lessons that are responsive to each child's strengths and needs. I am truly excited about watching OUR children grow and learn this school year in reading and writing!

I began my teaching career in Augusta, Georgia and then I relocated back to my hometown of Atlanta, Georgia to teach. Throughout my 10 years of being an educator, I have taught grades K-4.

My philosophy of education is "Every student can learn, just not in the same way.” Each child is a unique individual who needs guided instruction that will address the needs of their learning style. It is my desire as an educator to meet those needs by providing a secure, nurturing, learning environment in which students grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, and socially.

My focus is to maximize every learning opportunity so that students can excel to their fullest learning potential and take ownership of their learning. I believe all students are gifted; they just open their gifts at different times. Let's have a Tigerrrriffic school year!!
