Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Ms. Cohan and I am the new Director of Bands at SFHS. I am very excited to teach you/your children this year!
I recieved my Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Methodist University in May of 2020. My degree is focused in instrumental music and my primary instrument is the clarinet. I have been playing the clarient for eleven years and I have been a member of (or staff for) marching bands for eight years. During my time at Methodist University, I was a member of the Marching Monarchs for three years and I was Drum Major for two of those years. I was also a member of the Wilmington Symphonic Winds (which is a professional group based out of Wilmington, NC) while in college. While in this group, I had the honor to premier a piece titled "Gehrig" by Mark Camphouse. We performed the world premier of this piece at the North Carolina Music Educators Coonference in 2018 under the direction of Mark Camphouse himself. I was also a member of the Methodist University Chorale while in college. Through this experience I learned the improtance of singing in the instrumental classroom and the benifits it brigns to students (don't worry, we won't sing every single day).
After a year of taking band in the 6th grade, I knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Music is my passion and I am so incredibly thrilled to be where I am now! SFHS is definitly where I am meant to be and I can't wait to see where this program goes! Let's go have an amazing year Bruin Band!
