BA Theatre CofC

Mrs. Meredith T. Taylor

Meredith T. Taylor graduated from the College of Charleston in 1997 with a BA in theatre. While at the College, her concentrations were in Theatrical Performance and English. After graduation she pursued a career in video and television production through a position in the production department at WOLO television in Columbia, SC. This position taught her the basics of camera operation, editing, programming  and control room operation.

Meredith and her family relocated to Charleston where she began theatrical directing for the Porter-Gaud School. (2001-2003) After the success of Les Miserable’ and My Fair Lady, she was asked to serve as the theatrical choreographer for Charleston Southern University. (2002-2004) Upon relocating to Florence, Mrs. Taylor began teaching as a private vocal coach specializing in musical theatre. Several of her former students are currently starring in leading roles on Broadway and have taken roles in major motion pictures.

In 2011, Meredith created a musical theatre group called the Palmetto Players. In the three years she trained these performers, over seventy students representing each of FSD1’s high schools passed through her vocal performance program. Her students went on to receive Broadway callbacks, X-Factor golden ticket recipients, and FSD1 Vocal Star winners. She prepared her performers for performance choir auditions, local and national theatrical auditions, and recitals.

In 2013, Meredith received a teaching position at Trinity Collegiate School. (formerly Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate) She served as their theatrical director and taught: High School Drama 1&2, Middle School Drama, Middle School Music, & High School Cinematography. During her time at Trinity she directed 10 musicals and 5 plays. In late 2017, Meredith briefly moved to Louisiana to relocate with her husband’s job. In her break from teaching, Meredith wrote two YA fantasy fiction novels that were accepted for publication through Barnes & Noble, Churning Waters & Clashing Waters. (currently available at all book retailers , ebook and ibook sites)

In 2019 she joined the South Florence Arts Magnet School faculty. She currently teaches Studio Production & Film Design, Musical Theatre, Theatre History & Theatre 1 at SFHS. She is currently working towards her MFA. In addition to her novels, she has written and performed 5 original theatrical productions. Mrs. Taylor has received funding and has purchased the performance rights to The Lion King Experience, scheduled for 2020, or whenever covid audience restrictions are lifted.

Meredith is married to her college sweetheart, and they have 4 magical daughters.
