Due to implementation timeline at F1S, the district has decided to utilize the NCAA and non-college transcripts feature for class of 2019 to request send of their final transcripts to the colleges they plan to attend. See directions for Transcript Request through SchooLinks.
Pee Dee CAP Weed and Seed Summer Program
The WEED and SEED provides a SAFE HAVEN for students ages 6-14. During the summer months. The Weed and Seed Safe Haven provides a wide-array of sevices for our students which includes: a learning center, arts & crafts, field trips and social skill, etc. These services are designed to help students become interactive, increase theis self-awareness and achieve their academic performance. Pee Dee CAP Summer Youth Employment Programs
The Pee Dee Community Action Partnership is now enrolling students for the Summer Youth Program. This program provides Summer Employment for 10 weeks. To qualify for one of our progrmas you must be between the ages of 16-24 and household income eligible.

Drunk Driving Simulator on campus Wednesday May, 8, 2019
Lequint Johnson, Recuiting and Retention, NCO with the National Guard will have a drunk driving simulator on campus Wednesday May 8, 2019. The simulator allows students to drive in a simulated drunk mode. It demonstrates the dangerous effects of DUI/DWI driving, such as delayed response to controls and narrowing of the effective field of view. The display will be featured at the entrance of the building during all three lunches. Juniors and seniors are encourages to visit.

Vincent (VJ) Johnson Jr. Memorial Scholarship: Seniors. A non-renewable $500 scholarship to be awarded to a South Florence High School senior student in memory of Vincent (VJ) Johnson Jr., South Florence Class of 2011. South Carolina Lineman's Rodeo 2019, Florence SC March 16th 2019- SC. Lineman's Rodeo Orientation is an opportunity for high school students and recent graduates to explore careers as lineworkers for electric system construction and maintenance. **Claflin University and the National Assocaiation of College Deans, Registrars and Admissions Officers will host annual "Counselor's Forum and HBCU College Fair" on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 and Wednesday, March 20, 2019 on Claflin's historic and national honored campus.
The Counselor's Forum will be highly informative and include the following sessions:

ASVAB Interpretation Day at South Florence on January 22nd 2019 from 10:00am-11:50am in the Auditorium. Students are asked to bring fully charged chrome books. Following the interpretation, all Military branches will be in the commons area during all lunches to answer any additional questions.

On Saturday, November 10, 2018 FMU will have an Open House event. This event is free and open to the public. Registration starts at 9am in the University Center and the program begins at 10am. During Open House, students and their guests have the opportunity to visit two academic sessions and non- academic sessions (campus life, Honors, schoarships and financial aid, housing, etc) Lunch will be provided along with an optional campus tour. On Tuesday, November 13, 2018 FMU will have a FAFSA and Scholarship Night. This event will be held from 6pm-8pm in the Stanton Academic Center. Representatives from both Admissions and Financial Aid will be on hand to anwser questions and aid in the FAFSA process. This is a great way for both students and parents to receive some individualized counsel on FAFSA and types of aid offered to students.
Florence 1 School introduces new college and career-ready interface
Students in Florence 1 Schools have a new way to track their progress in high school and lay out their college and career goals. SchooLinks is a college and career readiness platform built for the 21st Century student. With SchooLinks, students are able to explore their interest, find what colleges and careers are the best fit for them and create a personal plan for graduation and beyond. This program is available for 9th-12th grade students in Florence 1 Schools and their parents. All of the SchooLinks features are designed to be user-friendly and engaging, helping students prepare for college, career and life in a way that feels relevant to them.
Using SchooLink, high school students and parents can:
- Explore 2 year 4 year colleges
- Learn about options for financial aid
- Find internship and volunteer opportunities
- Explore a career in a variety of military fields
- Create digital portolios/resumes
- Communicate with counselors
Using SchooLinks, 12th graders will be able to:
- Track college applications and request transcripts
- Request Letters of Recommendation

South Carolina High School Writing Writing Contest
The South Carolina Honors College at the University of South Carolina invites your students to enter for cash prizes and a publishing opportunity. The contest is open to South Carolina juniors/seniors.
- Students must be resident of South Carolina
- In 750 words or less, writing in any combination of genres (essay, short story, poem, play, etc) answering this question: "How should we improve the state of South Carolina?"
- Submissions will be evaluated based on originality of response and quality of writing.
- Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners.
- The entries of finalists and winners will be published by the South Carolina Honors College

Francis Marion will host Interview Day at South Florence High School on Thursday October 4th, 2018. Interested seniors must sign up in Guidance for a specific time. In order to interview with an FMU admissions counselor, seniors need to complete the following:
- Apply to FMU online at http://www.fmarion.edu/admissions/applynow/ prior to your interview. Application fee will be waived. Do not submit fee.
- If you have taken the SAT and/or ACT, please bring a copy of your score sheet with you. You will find the score sheet by signing into your SAT/ACT account. If we have a copy of your ACT test results from last spring, we will provide a copy for your interview.
Please dress appropriately and be on time to your interview in room 113. Teachers will receive an email from Mr. Dupree with the interview schedule for the day. Feel free to contact Mr. Dupree or Mrs. Ray, or Mr. Stokes with any questions or concerns. Deadline for signing-up is 4:00pm on Friday Septermber 21st.
