Southside Middle School Cheer Program is a vibrant part of the Southside’s Athletic Department that promotes tradition, spirit, leadership opportunities, sportsmanship, citizenship, and opportunities to be a role model in the community. Currently, our school is also privileged to have TWO squads that serve all students at Southside.
Our Falcon Sparkles is a student led inclusive squad that allows students with disabilities and special needs to cheer alongside the SMS cheerleaders to truly connect with typically developing teens outside of the general classroom. Our athletes gain confidence and acceptance through cheer by developing leadership skills, becoming educated on how students learn, and developing a sense of compassion for all people regardless of the ability. This squad cheers at selected pep rallies, games, and community events. Southside Middle School is the ONLY school in the FSD1 and the ONLY middle school in South Carolina to offer this program through the Sparkle Effect. This team also serves the local community by providing instruction to young children and volunteering in Florence as well.
Anyone who is interested in the SPARKLE or the SMS Cheer Squad must attend the mandatory Cheer Interest Meeting on January 29, 2019 @ 6PM. The meeting will take place in the cafe.
