Meet the Coach
Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Calandra Brisbone also known as Coach B. I am Carver’s very first STEM coach. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Francis Marion University and my Master’s in Technology from Lesley University. Prior to becoming the STEM coach at Carver, I spent three years as a first grade teacher. Later, I received reading recovery certification from Clemson University and taught reading recovery for an additional two years. After I received my gifted endorsement from Converse University, I taught for three years in the REACH program, Florence School District One’s gifted and talented program. In addition to working as the STEM coach at Carver Elementary, I also serve as a Google certified FSD1 technology instructor where I connect with teachers across the district and help them utilize technology resources in their classrooms.
What is a STEM/STEAM coach?
As STEM coach at Carver Elementary, I provide instructional support and collaborative coaching to teachers as they work to prepare students for the 21st century by integrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and math into their everyday curriculum. These disciplines allow students to think critically and showcase their creativity while collaborating and communicating with other students. A STEM coach is responsible for designing STEM/STEAM units and lessons, analyzing data in order to modify curriculum and forms of assessment, coordinate STEAM family nights, and share best educational practices in order to create the most effective and innovative learning experiences for students.
