Frederick DouglassSouth Carolina Association of School Librarians: South Carolina Book Award Nominees
Every year South Carolina's Association of School Librarians select a variety of books to encourage reading. Check out the complete list of nominees for new reading selections. Students are also asked to read the picture books and the children's books and vote on them at the end of the school year.
Library Information
The library receives students Monday - Friday from 8:00 - 1:55. Students are able to visit the library when they need to exchange books. Students are able to check out three books at a time, one chapter book and two nonfiction books OR two chapter books and one nonfiction book. Students need to remember to renew their books weekly if they are still reading them. Overdue notices will be sent home periodically, please check your child's folder for notices. Students will be using the Accelerated Reader 360 program this year. Click here for a Parent's Guide to this reading program.
There will be two book fairs per school year. One in the fall and one in the spring. Please look for information about these events in your child's weekly folders for dates and times.
New books are available for checkout. We are always adding to the collection. If you or your child has a book or series they would love to see added, please add your suggestion(s) to the *form and we will see if they are available and can be added to the school library.
We also have a growing section of Spanish books available to our students and their families that read and speak Spanish. Please ask your child to share their readings with you.
*Can only be viewed by F1S users.
