Ms. Sharri Duncan, NBCT, DTOY 2018-19

Welcome to Fifth Grade Art. I am very excited to be teaching fifth-grade art this year. This year art classes will be one hour long daily and rotate every quarter, (approximately every nine weeks).  I am ready to take each student artist from beginning drawing skills through to Design Thinking STEAM projects. We will be working on our skills outlined in the South Carolina Visaul Arts Standards, the South Carolina Media Arts Standards, the South Carolina Design Proficiency Standards, and the skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.

Last year I have the honor of representing Moore as Teacher of the Year and Florence 1 Schools as District Teacher of the Year for 2018-2019. I graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor in Fine Arts in 1977 and became a certified visual arts teacher in 2004 after a successful career in architectural non-residential interiors design in Dallas, Texas.  I have been teaching art at Moore Intermediate since 2004. In 2012, I became a National Board Certified Teacher. I was elected to the South Carolina National Board Network Board of Directors and will be serving on the board for the next three years. This summer I represented SCNBN in Washington, D.C. advocating for education on Capitol Hill. At the end of summer 2020, I hope to achieve my Master of Art Education degree from Converse College.

My favorite artwork media are clay, stone, and photography. I consider myself a sculptor and a photographer. In 2014 and 2017, it has been an honor to have my photography accepted and shown at the Lake City ArtFields competition. I have two adult children. My son graduated from Francis Marion University in 2015. He is a fiction writer and songwriter. My daughter graduates from Ithaca College in New York in May 2017 and is in her third year at the University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical School.

I have four pets, Leo the bird, and three cats...Monty, Nalah, and Penny.
And yes, I am a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan. Go 'Boys! Please understand, it is a matter of geography!
