About Middle/High Servies
The Middle/High Education Department is located in the District Office Building, 319 S. Irby Street.
The department of secondary education is responsible for the administration, coordination, and supervision of Secondary Education and all secondary programs.
Essential responsibilities include college and career readiness, alternative programming, and implementing the tenets of The Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.

6th Grade Criteria
- 4th Grade SC Ready Score - Meets or Exceeds (1 point)
- 5th Grade LinkIt C Score - Meets or Exceeds (1 point)
- Current 5th year Grades S1 - 80 or above (1 point)
- Current 5th Grade Teacher Recommendation - Checkbox (1 point)
Students must earn 3 out of 4 points to be enrolled in 6th Grade GT/ACC ELA.
7th Grade Criteria
- 5th Grade SC Ready Score - Meets or Exceeds (1 point)
- 6th Grade LinkIt C Score - Meets or Exceeds (1 point)
- Current 6th year Grades S1 - 80 or above (1 point)
- Current 6th Grade Teacher Recommendation - Checkbox (1 point)
Students must earn 3 out of 4 points to be enrolled in 7th Grade GT/ACC ELA.
English 1 Grade Criteria
- 6th Grade SC Ready Score - Meets or Exceeds (1 point)
- 7th Grade LinkIt C Score - Exceeds only (1 point)
- Current 7th year Grades S1 - 85 or above (1 point)
- Current 7th Grade Teacher Recommendation - Checkbox (1 point)
- Current GT/ACC student (1 point)
Students must earn 4 out of 5 points to be enrolled in 8th Grade English 1 Honors.
Waiver Process: Link to waiver
For students who do not meet the criteria outlined above, but whose parent/guardian elect to enroll them in GT/Honors courses, they must complete the attached waiver and return it to their guidance principal. Without this approved waiver a student cannot be placed into a GT/Honors class.
