Our Commitment
Our Commitment
We are committed to reducing the stigma surrounding receiving mental health services by providing mental health education to students and staff members so that they are aware of the benefits of access to mental healthcare.
This mental health resources page for Florence 1 Schools is integral to providing our students and their caregivers with access to meet the student’s various mental health needs.
With the launch of this page, we encourage you to become familiar with the various avenues provided for students who are in crisis to gain direct assistance:
-
A district employed School Based Mental Health Therapist or School Counselor who will assess immediately for any thoughts related to harm to self or harm to others.
-
After-hour access to information to gain assistance from our community-based partners.
Parents are reminded that after hours if their child is at risk of a mental health crisis they should proceed immediately to their nearest hospital for assistance.

NAMI-National Alliance on Mental Illness
Florence 1 Schools has a partnership with NAMI for NAMI's Ending The Silence Program. Ending the Silence is a free, evidence-based, 50-minute session designed for middle and high school students. Your students will learn about mental health conditions through a brief presentation, short videos, and personal testimony from a young adult who describes their journey to recovery. F1S NAMI Liaison is Ms. Leola Reaves a former counselor for Florence One Schools who has now made it a part of her life’s mission to educate schools and families on understanding mental illness. For more information, please email Ms. Reaves at leola.reaves@namisc.org.
(About the Presentation: NAMI Ending the Silence presentations include two leaders: one who shares an informative presentation and a young adult with a mental health condition who shares their journey of recovery. Audience members can ask questions and gain understanding of an often-misunderstood topic. Through dialogue, we can help grow the movement to end stigma.)
