Southside Middle School Cheer Program is a vibrant part of the Southside’s Athletic Department that promotes tradition, spirit, leadership opportunities, sportsmanship, citizenship, and opportunities to be a role model in the community. Currently, our school is also privileged to have TWO squads that serve all students at Southside.
Our Falcon Sparkles is a student led inclusive squad that allows students with disabilities and special needs to cheer alongside the SMS cheerleaders to truly connect with typically developing teens outside of the general classroom. Our athletes gain confidence and acceptance through cheer by developing leadership skills, becoming educated on how students learn, and developing a sense of compassion for all people regardless of the ability. This squad cheers at selected pep rallies, games, and community events. Southside Middle School is the ONLY school in the FSD1 and the ONLY middle school in South Carolina to offer this program through the Sparkle Effect. Southside Middle School (SMS) Cheer Squad consists of seventh and eighth grader cheerleaders who promote school spirit and firmly believe that teamwork, diligence, and hard work aid in creating productive and responsible citizens of character. This team also serves the local community by providing instruction to young children and volunteering in Florence as well.
As of April 2019, the squad for the 2019-2020 School Year has been chosen. HOWEVER, there is a Cheer Interest Meeting on Tuesday, January 28th at 6:15 PM for individuals interested in cheering for the 2020-2021 School Year. The meeting will take place in the cafeteria.
If you missed the meeting, please contact Coach Matthews-Robinson via email at Kimberly.email@example.com to receive the cheer packet. Tryouts will take place on April 15th - April 17th (GYM) from 4PM- 6PM.
