• Advantage Academy

In 1956 Florence School District One began, in a serious way, to commit itself to an enlarged vocational program for high school students. Since that time the program has been enlarged course by course as local, state and federal monies became available.

The Advantage Academy (formerly The Florence Career Center), over the past quarter of a century, has provided applied occupational/career education instruction for students in Florence One Schools.  South Florence, West Florence, Wilson and Timmonsville High School students attend the Advantage Academy and can earn a certificate of completion in any of nineteen areas.

High Technology is evident throughout the Advantage Academy.  Three hundred fifteen computers are available in the instructional programs.  Articulation agreements coordinate similar occupational programs taught at the Advantage Academy and Florence-Darlington Technical College, avoiding unnecessary duplication of course work between the two levels of instruction.

The following courses are taught at the Advantage Academy: Agriculture Science / Horticulture, Auto Collision, Auto Technology, Aviation, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Computer Networking, Construction Technology, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Cyber Security, Digital Art and Design, Early Childhood Education,Electricity,Electrical Line Worker, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Hospitality and Tourism, Mechanical Design / PLTW, Pharmtech, Welding, Welding Dual Credit .
