Joan Shortall has been teaching in Florence District One since 2000. She loves watching her students put on their creative hats. She enjoys teaching students about careers and helping them to become employable.
This year she will be teaching twelfth graders Employability Skills class. Students are learning important living skills so they will be better prepared to work and live within our community. Since all students are equipped with a Chromebook this year we are able to share ideas, test and complete career and life activities alone, in small groups or with the whole class for any given assignment.
Students are currently busy finishing their community based training hours that they started last year. They have also prepared their resumes and have completed job applications. A few have been contacted about interviews. Speaking of interviews, they are learning about and practicing proper interview behaviors and skills. Students are also expanding their knowledge of employment vocabulary and payroll related words.
