Every year, first-grade children at Timrod Elementary School are assessed to identify those children who may benefit from Reading Recovery tutoring. Reading Recovery is a short-term early intervention that provides "something extra" to insure all children are off to a good start in reading and writing. The child receives an individual, daily 30-minute teaching session each day. These Reading Recovery sessions are in addition to regular classroom instruction. When the child can read and write at a level equal to that of a typical first-grade peer, or at the end of twenty weeks, the child's intervention is discontinued.
