• At Briggs Elementary, the literacy coach works with teachers to support them in their journey of reflective teaching, professional learning, and interpreting and applying student data. The literacy coach works in conjunction with the teachers to insure Briggs continues to be a student-centered school. The job of the coach is to support teachers, while advocating on behalf of them and our students.

A literacy coach is one who helps teachers to recognize what they know and can do, assists teachers as they strengthen their ability to make more effective use of what they know and do, and support teachers as they learn more and do more.

Coaching is a partnership. Coaching is job-embedded. Coaching is about professional learning. Coaching supports reflection about students, the curriculum, and pedagogy.
