Content Recovery Information
Dear Parents and Guardians, February 28, 2020
We are pleased that your child has enrolled in the Content Recovery program at Southside Middle School. The purpose of the program is to assist those students who did not meet proficiency standards in either language arts or math first semester.
The program begins on Monday, March 2nd and concludes Thursday, April 2nd. Sessions will be held Monday through Thursday from 3:45 until 5:45 each day. Students will be assigned to a certified ELA or math teacher and will receive instruction based on first and second quarter academic standards. Homework will not be assigned for content recovery classes, however, active participation during class is a requirement. Students will be graded based on academic performance in the program. Weekly progress reports will be sent home with students every Thursday indicating progress. Students who successfully complete the program with a grade of 65 or higher will have their first semester average replaced with a 65.
Attendance at all sessions for the duration of each session is mandatory. Students are expected to comply with all rules and classroom procedures as defined by the F1S Code of Conduct. Students who fail to follow school and classroom expectations will be dismissed from the program.
There is no cost for the program, however, students must have transportation each day at 5:45. It is imperative that students be picked up on time each day. Two late pickups will result in dismissal from the program and credit will not be given to students.
It is my hope that your child will benefit academically from participating in content recovery. This is an excellent opportunity for students to practice skills from first and second quarter while continuing to improve their overall grade. Please feel free to reach out to me should you have any questions or concerns.
As always, we thank you for your support.
Southside Middle School
Students who are absent from school lose valuable instructional time. We are concerned that a lack of attendance will have an affect on student’s grades and academic success. Studnet's with excessive absences this school year are encouraged to attend attendance recovery.
We will offer attendance recovery two Saturdays a month for the 2019-2020 school year. The schedule is as follows: February 8th and 22nd, March 14th and 28th, April 18th and 25th, May 9th and 16th. Students can only attend a maximum of four days of attendance recovery per year, and must attend each session in its entirety to receive credit.
Sessions begin at 8:00 a.m. and will dismiss at 12:00 p.m. Any student dropped off after 8:00 a.m. will not be permitted to stay for the session. In addition, all students must be picked up on time at the conclusion of each session. Failure to pick up your child by 12:00 p.m. will result in ineligibility to attend future sessions. These sessions will serve as instructional make up time, therefore students will be responsible for bringing their charged Chromebook to complete assignments. Any student who does not bring their Chromebook will not be permitted to attend that session.
If you are interested in your child attending any of the scheduled sessions, sign up must take place in the attendance office no later than the Friday prior to the session(s) being attended. Should you have any questions, please contact the school office at 843-664-8467.
*Students must comply with school rules and dress code policy.
