Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Valerie McElroy
I have been an employee in the public school systems for 27 years, six as an instructional assistant and 21 as a classroom teacher. I knew growing up that I wanted to be an educator. While in fifth and sixth grade I always looked forward to the days when I was able to go to the lower grades to help and interact with the students. I was fortunate enough to have teachers that prepared, motivated, and inspired me to become the teacher that I am today.
I was born and raised in San Diego, California. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from San Diego State University. A few years later I received my teaching certificate from National University in San Diego.
After three years of teaching 3rd grade in San Diego, my family and I moved to Pensacola, Florida where I taught 3rd grade for seven years. In 2008 I moved to Florence, South Carolina. I taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade at Greenwood Elementary School. I currently teach 4th grade ELA and social studies at Carver Elementary.
I have one 26-year-old daughter. She graduated from Benedict College in Columbia, SC with a degree in Psychology.
I love to travel. As I am traveling I take plenty of pictures and pick up anything that will add enrichment to our social studies lessons. I enjoy showing my students pictures of my travels to encourage and show my students that there are so many great places in our great nation and that each one of them can go and do anything that they would like to with hard work and dedication.
